G15 gaming keyboard lcd
Several games are compatible with the LCD screen like Battlefield and some applications like Ventrilo are as well. In Battlefield you can get information about the game on the LCD like armor left and ammo, Ventrilo allows you to see who is talking. I still have the same issues with the LCD now as I did on the original G15, who wants to take their eyes off the screen during a hectic game to look at the keyboard LCD when the same information is typically listed on the in game HUD.
On the flat portion of the keyboard to the right of the LCD is a large dedicated mute button that is easy to find and hit if you need to mute your game quickly for a phone call. To the immediate right of the mute button is the control for the brightness of the backlighting. On the opposite side of the keyboard, you find a large gaming button that is used to disable the Windows key during game sessions, keeping you from accidentally closing your game window.
To the left of that button is the large key dedicated to recording macros on the fly. Next to the MR macro record button are the three buttons for the different macro profiles labeled M1, M2, and M3. Directly below the macro profile buttons on the far left of the keyboard are the six macro buttons that provide a total of 18 available macro programming options.
Typing feel on the new Logitech G15 is identical to that of the old G15, which is a good thing, I liked the typing feel of the original. The keys offer a nice tactile feel and an audible click when pressed without feeling spongy. I found the scissor keys on the Razer Tarantula to be fantastic and very much enjoyed typing on the Microsoft Reclusa, which I used as my daily keyboard for a number of months.
So tempting. I need a headset first though. Has anyone ever had compatibility issues with the keyboard? If a game does not support it at all, have you ever had any negative effects? It does look like a great keyboard, might have to consider it around x-mas time, along with a new Nvidia card if they release in Nov like they plan. For Eve a trader might like to put how many active sell orders he has, or track market averages for some specific items..
DPS would be nice too… you can switch between percentage and absolute readout by rclicking on one of the arrows, iirc. I disagree I would prefer to have a scalling program for the g LCD.
If you think about it how many people are truly lazy and prefer to have info already up on a screen of some sort. I know a lot of people who use the G as i do. Most of them complain because stats, baggage, money ext. Having all your stats and charactor info including baggage count already on screen would make life just that much easier so i can always tell where my armour dmg is along with the current stats that are affected with that already subdued armour damage without taking the time to have to look it all up with mouse over reactions that can seemingly take for ever.
So i figure that most people who use the g with lcd will more or less have the screen visible to them anyway and not have a desk with a pull out keyboard slab. I use it for Minilyrics in Windows, when I listen to music. So why even concider a G11 at all? It seems like it should be good for more than my main use, which is controlling iTunes. Very handy. But even nongamers will like two of the G15's more straightforward features. Mac users know the benefits of a keyboard that doubles as a USB hub, and it's about time that Windows users did as well. Second, the G15 has a slider that disables the Switch To Windows key that pulls you from the app you're in back to the Windows desktop common to most Windows-compatible keyboards.
We've certainly pressed that button many times by accident, in and out of a game. In the year that we've used the G15 as our day-to-day keyboard, we've kept the slider in the off position since we first unboxed it. We've never found the need to slide it back. You can also interact with the screen via a small row of buttons below it. A few games support the screen, either out of the box or via a game patch, with World of Warcraft being the most notable.
Its hope is that people will play with the software and develop cool and useful LCD mini apps.
