Limited connection or no connectivity in windows xp

Hello, I purchased a new computer in my household, and I did a system recovery on my old laptop to reset it to its original settings so that I could give it to a family member to use. Now, as I booted up the laptop "for the first time", it will not connect to the internet. It shows that there is an available connection but the status is listed as "Limited or No Connectivity". My current desktop runs fine on wireless, as does my iPad, phone, and blu-ray player.

The only thing that I have hardlined to my router is the xbox. Yet, my laptop won't connect. I tried resetting the winsock and IP and that didn't work. I even ran the winsockpcfix and that didn't work.

Can you "view available wireless networks" and see your router? Never had any connectivity problems before. After installing SP2 on my laptop I ran into problems. Windows XP wouldn't connect to the Internet anymore. After checking the connection details, I noticed that the connection had somehow been assigned a Weird thing was that at the same time my desktop computer was running too, and its network connection status showed that it had been assigned an IP address by the DHCP server. Request has timed out.

After double checking to see if all my cables were still connected correctly, I decided there's only one thing left to do: reset the router. That was it! The laptop could connect to the DHCP server again. Don't ask me why the desktop didn't have any problems.

I even renewed its IP address shortly before I did a "reset" on the router, and no problems occurred.
