Primary netball warm up games

The group with the ball must pass following the coaches direction i. Players must be running forwards to ball carrier to receive the ball. Once everyone has received a pass the last person passes to next third which are still doing the initial movement the coach called out i.

The player that passes to a player in the next third must call out another pass and movement combination. Examples of passes can include drop ball, shoulder pass, non-dominant, chest, bounce etc Examples of movements; fast feet, leaps, high knees, skips, star jumps, squats, zig zag runs.

Everyone in each third should be moving at all times. The attackers have to avoid being touched by the ball. The defenders aim is to tag the attackers with the ball. They have to have the ball in hand when they tag the attacker. All footwork rules apply. When a player is tagged they join the tagging group to ensure they stay warm, therefore switching from attacking to defending like in game following a turnover. Attackers can run with the ball. To score a point, the attackers must run out of the box with the ball to touch the ground at a boundary line of the third without being tagged by a defender.

Defenders only tag attackers that are carrying the ball. You can progress this warm up so that defenders can intercept the pass back to home. If defenders intercept, they score 2 points. Split your large group into two teams and then split each team in half. This could be putting up a shot or simply touching the ball to post. If an interception is made, the defenders become the attackers.

You can add many conditions and progressions dependent on your group and session focus i. Get your players to set up spaced out on the lines and they must stay on the lines. Choose one person to be the Pacman to start. This player must go around the lines waving their arms in front of them like a Pacman mouth to tag someone. The tagged person then also becomes a Pacman and this continues until all players are tagged and are a Pacman, at which point a new round can begin.

Split the group into two teams. One of the groups should be in a queue at the top of the shooting circle. They are the shooting team. The other team line up at one of the corner of the goal third. They are the running team. The game starts on a whistle blow, at which point the first player in the shooting team can start shooting, at the same time the first in line on the running team starts running. If the shooter scores whilst the runner is still running, the runner must stop where they are on the course.

All players in queues or stationary on the course must always stay active doing movements on the spot, such as high knees, heel Flicks, Star Jumps, Fast feet.
