Asu bowl games 2012
Though Oregon State has lost four of its last seven after a start, this rushing attack is extremely fun to watch. OSU will be plenty motivated to win its first bowl since UTSA is in the midst of its best season ever. Now UTSA is seeking the first bowl win in program history.
There could be a lot of points in this one. Washington State has been playing very well and recently elevated interim coach Jake Dickert to full-time head coach. This will be his first game without the interim label. This game would be higher up the board if neither team came crashing to a halt in November.
SMU was before losing four of its last five games and falling to Tulsa in the regular season finale. Virginia was before losing its last four games. Kentucky keeps putting winning seasons together under Mark Stoops and now can get to 10 wins for the fourth time in program history.
Iowa won the Big Ten West despite its offensive struggles. The Hawkeyes got to 10 wins thanks to an opportunistic defense and excellent special teams. This is a team that lost to South Carolina and Missouri down the stretch and both head coach Dan Mullen and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham got fired.
And will Florida be motivated to play? Air Force had a nice season, going , and has a three-game win streak entering this game. The Falcons also throw more than their service academy counterparts, Army and Navy.
Louisville has one of the most exciting dual-threat QBs in the country with Malik Cunningham. This could be a fun contrast of offensive styles. Arizona State and Wisconsin fans converging on Las Vegas is a match made in heaven. By now, you know the Wisconsin formula. ASU was about as uninspiring as you can be for a team four games above. The first year of the Bryan Harsin era at Auburn was up and down. The Tigers were once and ranked No. Houston lost its opener to Texas Tech and then reeled off 11 consecutive victories before losing to Cincinnati in the AAC title game.
Auburn wants to avoid a losing record. Houston wants to snap a four-game bowl losing streak. Boise State played 10 bowl teams in Does that mean Boise is underrated?
Central Michigan got to a bowl game after winning its last four games of the season. The Chippewas beat four bowl teams on that winning streak too. This could be a fun one. This does look like a bit of a mismatch on paper. Western Michigan scored points in its last six games of the season while Nevada averaged 37 points per game.
He and the Tigers have a tough task against Kansas State, who has one of the most underrated running backs in the country in 5-foot-5 Deuce Vaughn. He got hurt late in the season. Coastal Carolina was one of the top stories of college football in , and CCU had another good year in The Chanticleers run a unique offense and have an excellent quarterback in Grayson McCall.
Northern Illinois went winless in and won the MAC in How about that turnaround? The Huskies have an excellent running game and are looking for their first bowl win since The Cougars ended the season in the top 15 of the College Football Playoff rankings and are in this game via an agreement with the Independence Bowl before moving to the Big The Cougars are going to be big favorites.
The Black Knights run a crisp, consistent triple-option offense. Missouri has one of the worst run defenses in the country, but that unit played much better down the stretch.
At least Mizzou has three weeks to prepare. East Carolina won four of its last five games after starting the season The only loss in that stretch came to Cincinnati in the final game of the regular season. UNC started the year ranked No. South Carolina is in its first season under Shane Beamer and exceeded expectations to get to a postseason game. And with this bowl game in Phoenix, so far away from either school, there may not be many fans in attendance.
Virginia Tech fired coach Justin Fuente but got a rivalry win over Virginia to get bowl eligible. The Hokies struggled on offense for much of the year, but found a rhythm running the ball over the last month of the season. Maryland started but needed to beat Rutgers in its last game to get bowl eligible for the first time under Mike Locksley. I believe that is a mark that ASU fans should have their eye on.
After this start, or would seem disappointing. Those games will determine where ASU sits in the Pac not only this year, but in future years. Cody Ulm: I think it's a bit odd that we're changing our goals as soon as they're close to being met.
Not to say that I'm already content with what we've done but I feel that it's important to temper expectations. As Nick and others pointed out, our schedule has been quite favorable. I'm proud of this team for taking care of business up until this point but we will find out how talented this team truly is over the final seven games. So if we only pull out those two, that puts us at by my math.
The Pac is a competitive, balanced conference that's currently wide open which has a lot of ASU fans believing they have a chance to steal it. But what people have to remember is that talent-wise, this team was projected as middle of the pack I said We must be careful not to get overboard, especially when you consider that this team is less stacked than the squad who fell flat on their face in the second half. I would prefer with a win in Tucson or by stealing one against one of the ranked teams but I won't call this season a failure if they come up short of that while still giving those teams a run for their money.
More than anything, I think this season is about the mindset this team features; Are they showing that they can dance with the big boys and are confident about that fact? I think Todd Graham and company has this team overachieving right now and the rest of the conference should take notice.
As long as he can keep that up and continue to have their opponents thinking "oh snap, we have to play the Sun Devils this week" for the rest of the season, that should be considered a success regardless or their final record. Brad Denny: No way in hell. This fantastic start, as Cory said earlier, has thrown every preseason expectation out of the window, including my record prediction.
Todd Graham has the boys much further along than anyone expected. Sure, the difficulty significantly ramps up after Colorado, but the team will be that much more prepared and immersed in the culture and systems as well.
Bowl eligibility was once the goal, but now seven wins has to be the lower regions of the team's target. Simply scrapping together another Maaco Bowl appearance would mean that yet another late-season collapse, and that would be far more damaging to the program than not having the season I initially envisioned.
As Ben said, go big or go home. For me, that's at worst a trip to the Alamo or Holiday Bowls. New, 10 comments. That's all it took. Then Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen told reporters at the time: "We snapped the ball with 18 seconds left, we downed it with 15 seconds left and we never got a chance to snap it again. I don't know how that happens. But from my side, the quarterback goes to try and basically take a knee. From the end zone angle it looks like his knee might have been down. From the wide angle it looks like he's not.
What he did, he slipped, so he kind of jerked. Whether he got down or didn't get down, he caused some confusion because their right tackle is going like to get on the ball, so it caused our guys to get on the ball.
